Harmony Road Music Center has been an integral part of our lives since our eldest son, Grant, took a "Music in Me" class at the age of 3. Grant is now 13 and Hillary, our daughter, is 11. Our children are both accomplished musicians due in large part to Harmony Road. They both have perfect or near-perfect pitch. Grant plays in a rock band called Still Pending. Hillary sings and composes music. Our lives are filled with music and are richer for it. We cannot express strongly enough how much we believe in the philosophy and quality of the school and teaching staff at Harmony Road.
Toddler Tunes was developed specifically for the 1½ - 3-year-old student. Classes are completely experiential and focused on providing students with a joyful music-making program. You and your toddler will experience rhythms, finger plays, active movement games, keyboard exploration and singing. Students do not learn to play the piano at this age. Toddler class enrollment is open throughout the semester.
Classes meet 30 minutes weekly for 18-week terms.
The Music in Me and More Music in Me courses were developed for preschoolers, ages 3 - 5. Students experience music physically and develop musical understanding, pitch and rhythm awareness through singing, rhythm, movement, ear training and keyboard activities. They are introduced to music reading and writing and learn to track notes on the piano but are not taught to play at this age. Parents participate in class time and are guided in follow-up activities. Music in Me enrollment is open throughout the semester; More Music in Me is enrollment is open through week eight.
Classes meet 45 minutes weekly for 16-week terms.
Students are taught with age-appropriate strategies and have the same learning goals.
In all three learning tracts, students develop “inner hearing” and learn music through a combination of effective and enjoyable activities that include rhythm and movement, solfege and expressive singing, and ear training. They gain experience in solo and ensemble keyboard playing and develop an understanding of harmony and applied theory. In addition to learning to read, write and play music, they are introduced to improvising, composing and transposing. Parents participate in class time and are guided in follow-up activities.
Classes meet 55 minutes weekly for 20-week terms. The Harmony Road and Young Musician meet for four semesters; Keyboard Prep meets for three.
Keyboard Musician is designed for graduates of Harmony Road, Young Musician and Keyboard Prep courses. Using many of the same activities as the beginning courses, students advance their piano playing and music reading and writing skills while expanding their knowledge of theory, composition and improvisation. Graduates of this four-semester course are encouraged to continue their piano study in group classes. Parents participate in class time and are guided in follow-up activities. This is a four-semester program.
Classes meet 55 minutes weekly for 20-week terms.
Our group piano classes begin at the intermediate level. Students learn and perfect technical skills and continue to study theory, arranging and composition. They learn selections of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern and Contemporary music—playing both solos and duets. They have the opportunity to perform at recitals each year and participate in Oregon Federated Music Clubs’ annual Festival. Students can continue their study at Harmony Road through high school.
Enjoy the benefits of music making:
You will play favorite melodies, understand and apply chords, improvise and compose, share in ensemble playing, and play by ear and by reading music.
Classes meet 45 minutes weekly for 6-week segments.

My name is Timothy Schwer. I'm a Sophomore at Clackamas High this year and have been taking lessons from Harmony Road for about 5 years, and in that time I've learned so much about the nuances of music. Ever since my days in Keyboard Prep, I've loved music--listening, playing, or composing it. Harmony Road really helped me realize that. I'd like to thank my teacher Judy Stanley especially for encouraging me to go the extra year and for working around my (at times) challenging schedule. Since taking lessons, I've made it into the top two choirs at my high school, and continue to love and perform music. Thanks to everyone at Harmony Road who helped make my early musical education a success!
